Longevity Day, NFC Summit Lisbon
Stephen Watson moderated "The State of Longevity Medicine" at the Unicorn Factory.

What a conversation.
At the Longevity Day at NFC Summit Lisbon, I had the privilege of moderating The State of Longevity Medicine, a panel that brought together four of the most rigorous minds working at the intersection of clinical practice and longevity science. We came to interrogate the field honestly, not to sell it.
They delivered.
A few threads that stayed with me:
The frameworks we lean on may be holding us back. José Pedro Castro, PhD pedro castro made the case that some of the field's foundational concepts have quietly stalled progress, a challenge to orthodoxy that set the tone for the whole hour.
Less is more. Luísa Batista, MD cut through the biomarker obsession with a reminder that stress and mental health are too often undermined by the very pursuit of optimization. Sometimes the most advanced medicine is restraint.
Beyond the supplement aisle. Diogo Barardo pushed us past the narrow framing of longevity-as-pills toward the harder, more interesting work, multi-omics, AI, and rethinking the foundations themselves.
Lifespan to brain span. Matthew Thomas Ferreira reframed the entire goal: it's not just about adding years, it's about staying sharp through them. Brain health as the next frontier.
The through-line? This field is at its best when it's willing to question itself. Deep thanks to my exceptional panel, Diogo Barardo, José Pedro PhD, Luísa Batista, MD and Matthew Thomas Ferreira for their candor and generosity.
And to the hosts who made it happen, Nina Patrick, PhD and Michelangelo G., thank you for building a room where these conversations can actually breathe. NFC Summit is something special.
More of this, please. 👇
