# General Value > General Value is a consulting firm registered in Portugal since 2013. It works in two sectors, each with a lead partner: longevity (destinations, clinics and health-led real estate, led by Stephen Watson) and sustainability and forestry (forest land assessment, management models, business cases and funding routes, led by José Miguel Medeiros). Across both, the team provides feasibility studies, operating and financial models, institutional and public-affairs work, and brand and launch work, usually commissioned one piece at a time. The figures and case studies on the site come from the partners’ earlier roles at other organizations, except Cicoria, which is current concept work. Slogan: Value generates health generates wealth. ## Sectors - [Longevity](https://generalvalue.eu/longevity/): For developers, investors and clinic operators planning longevity destinations, clinics and health-led real estate. We define the care program, the operating model and the financial case before a project opens, so it can be funded, staffed and run. Led by Stephen Watson. - [Sustainability and forestry](https://generalvalue.eu/forestry/): For landholders, owners’ associations, municipalities and investors deciding what to do with forest land. We assess the land, set out how it can be managed, and build the business case and funding route for a pilot, with the institutional work scoped around it. Led by José Miguel Medeiros. ## Shared capabilities - Test whether it works. Feasibility, market and commercial viability. (Consulting; Stephen Watson and Luis Da Silva, with Amândio Costa on the numbers.) - Build the operating and financial model. Operating model, business plan, financial model. (Consulting; Amândio Costa leads the financial modeling.) - Structure it and find the funding. Jurisdictions and incentives, funding eligibility, investor materials. (Consulting and Public affairs; José Miguel Medeiros and Stephen Watson.) - Take it through the institutions. Stakeholder strategy, municipal and national coordination, grant applications. (Public affairs; José Miguel Medeiros.) - Position and launch it. Brand and identity, content, web and campaigns, product and AI. Also commissioned on its own, outside the two sectors. (Brand and innovation; Luis Da Silva.) ## Official overview and current public information - [Company overview](https://generalvalue.eu/overview/): the firm, sectors, services, people and attributed projects. - [Apresentação da empresa](https://generalvalue.eu/pt/apresentacao/): a mesma informação em português. - [Factual information as JSON](https://generalvalue.eu/site-information.json): source links and content revision, generated with each website release. - [Public information as text](https://generalvalue.eu/llms-full.txt): core page text and publication summaries with original source links, excluding forms and context variants. - [Latest publications RSS](https://generalvalue.eu/insights/feed.xml): source publication dates when known. Content, Retrieval and Model Knowledge in Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)](https://generalvalue.eu/insights/ai-citations-retrieval-2026-preprint/): Research, 10 October 2026. Before an AI system can cite a page, it usually has to find it. This recent preprint follows commercial questions over time and separates retrieval, citation and brand mentions. Its results challenge the idea that adding a standard set of page features reliably creates visibility. Matching the questions people ask appears more informative than many generic recommendations. For a small firm, the practical response is to publish specific, useful explanations and observe whether engines retrieve them. The study is observational, limited to English US markets and not yet established through peer review. It offers a useful challenge, rather than a universal recipe. - [The State of the World’s Forests 2026](https://generalvalue.eu/insights/fao-state-of-the-worlds-forests-2026/): Research, 28 September 2026. FAO makes the economic case for restoring forests and landscapes, while pledges and actual restoration lag far behind the need. - [Cascais International Health Forum](https://generalvalue.eu/insights/cascais-international-health-forum-2026/): Talk, 24 September 2026. When health information comes through AI, credibility still depends on how people judge both the message and its source. In a preregistered experiment with 1,502 US adults, advice attributed to a human nurse was rated more credible than advice attributed to the two AI sources. For General Value, this supports an editorial question: how should a health organisation make its information understandable and accountable as discovery changes? Clear authorship, visible evidence and careful explanations are proposed applications, not outcomes tested here. The study measures responses to hypothetical scenarios, not search visibility, clinical safety or the commercial performance of a brand. - [Longevity is becoming an asset class](https://generalvalue.eu/insights/longevity-is-becoming-an-asset-class/): Post, 18 June 2026. A company benefits little from appearing in an AI answer that misrepresents its work. AutoGEO treats visibility and answer quality as related goals. It studies which source characteristics different model-based engines prefer, then uses those observations to guide rewriting while preserving useful information. Its practical contribution is an editorial loop: compare alternatives, inspect the evidence and check what the resulting answer actually says. For General Value, this suggests testing clear service explanations and documented cases instead of applying a universal writing formula. The experiments support a method for learning and testing. They do not guarantee lasting reach or business results. - [State of Health in the EU: Portugal, Country Health Profile 2025](https://generalvalue.eu/insights/oecd-portugal-country-health-profile-2025/): Research, 8 December 2025. A public typology to assist community engagement and communication](https://generalvalue.eu/insights/forestry-audience-segmentation-2024/): Research, 20 September 2024. People do not approach planted forests with the same concerns. Drawing on 1,192 valid survey responses in New Zealand, this study identifies five audience segments with different attitudes towards forest management and trust. For General Value, the editorial implication is to begin communication with audience research rather than assume that one sustainability message serves everyone. A project could explain its decisions, invite questions and address the concerns that matter locally. That is our proposed application, not an intervention tested by the researchers. The survey was conducted in 2020, and its segments should be re-examined before informing work in another market. - [The State of the World's Forests 2024](https://generalvalue.eu/insights/fao-state-of-the-worlds-forests-2024/): Research, July 2024. Public spending on pensions, health and long-term care stays near a quarter of EU GDP to 2070, so public budgets alone will not build the care capacity an older population needs. - [GEO: Generative Engine Optimization](https://generalvalue.eu/insights/geo-foundation-2024/): Research, 2024. AI search changes where a reader encounters a company's expertise. This study asks how the presentation of a source influences its use in a generated answer. In controlled tests, adding relevant evidence and improving clarity often increased source visibility, with results varying across topics. The useful lesson is to make information easy to understand and verify. For complex projects, that means explaining assumptions, identifying responsible experts and linking each important figure to its origin. The reported gains are experimental visibility measures. They do not establish extra visitors, commercial enquiries or lasting improvements in today's search products. - [Progress report on the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing, 2021 to 2023](https://generalvalue.eu/insights/who-decade-of-healthy-ageing-progress-2023/): Research, 22 November 2023. Hospital brands are shaped by the service people encounter. This review brings together 32 empirical studies and maps how perceived quality, patient experience, satisfaction and other factors relate to hospital brand equity. For General Value, the useful question is how a promise becomes visible in everyday interactions: the clarity of an appointment page, the explanation of a service and the consistency of follow-up. That application is our editorial inference. The review offers a framework for asking better branding questions; it does not establish that a new identity, website or campaign will increase revenue, or that findings transfer unchanged between countries. - [Miami to become home to world's first Blue Zones Centre to help people live better for longer](https://generalvalue.eu/insights/press-spa-business-2021/): In the press, September 2021.
